Welcome to Morrisville
Morrisville has transformed from a small community into one of the Triangle's most dynamic and convenient places to live. Positioned immediately adjacent to Research Triangle Park and with much of RDU International Airport within or next to its limits, it offers unmatched access for professionals in technology, life sciences, and related industries.
The town center district has grown with retail, dining, a library, dog park, and farmers market, while residential neighborhoods range from established to newer master-planned communities. Diversity is a hallmark — nearly half the population is Asian — and the public schools are among the strongest in Wake County.
A Brief History
Morrisville grew up at a rail crossroads in western Wake County and is named for Jeremiah Morris, who donated land for the North Carolina Railroad in 1852. On April 13, 1865, the area was the site of one of the final skirmishes of the Civil War. The Shiloh community, a free African American settlement formed by about 1830, was annexed into Morrisville in 1987 and is honored today at Shiloh Park and along its greenway. Growth exploded with Research Triangle Park and RDU: 18,576 residents in 2010, 29,630 in 2020. Construction on a planned Town Center around the historic crossroads began in fall 2025 (Town of Morrisville).
Why Locals Love It
Residents praise the short commutes, excellent schools (especially Green Hope High), international food scene, parks and trails, and the practical advantages of living so close to major employment centers and the airport. The town has earned repeated recognition as one of the best places to live and raise a family in North Carolina.
Local Perspective
If your job is in RTP or you fly frequently, Morrisville's location is hard to beat. The diversity and food options make everyday life more interesting than many traditional suburbs.
