Welcome to Pittsboro & Chatham Park

Pittsboro has long been known for its charming, walkable historic downtown, arts scene, and small-town atmosphere in Chatham County. In recent years it has become one of the Triangle's most talked-about growth stories thanks to Chatham Park — a multi-decade, thousands-of-acre master-planned community that is creating new neighborhoods, amenities, commercial space, and housing options.

Buyers can choose between character homes near downtown, larger lots outside town, or new construction in Chatham Park villages with pools, trails, and emerging mixed-use areas. The location offers access to Chapel Hill, RTP, and Jordan Lake while feeling more spacious and less dense than core Triangle suburbs.

A Brief History

Pittsboro was established in 1787 as the seat of Chatham County and named for William Pitt the Younger. Its 1881 courthouse anchors a traffic circle at the center of a compact historic downtown. In the late 20th century the town became known for arts, crafts and farming communities. Chatham Park, a master plan of roughly 7,100 acres in the town’s zoning (the developer cites 8,500) approved in 2015, is now adding thousands of homes. Its MOSAIC district is the new commercial center (MOSAIC).

Why Locals Love It

Residents value the authentic downtown (shops, restaurants, events), the natural setting, and the new amenities and housing choices arriving with Chatham Park. It appeals to those who want more land or a master-planned lifestyle without being in the densest parts of the Triangle.

Local Perspective

Downtown Pittsboro still feels like a real small town with personality. Chatham Park is adding the modern amenities and new homes that many families are looking for. Together they create a unique combination.
