Welcome to North Ridge
North Ridge is one of north Raleigh's most established and desirable residential areas, defined by its private country club, rolling terrain, mature trees, and quiet residential streets. Homes range from classic 1970s–1990s builds to custom and luxury properties, many with golf-course views or access to the club's extensive amenities.
The neighborhood sits along Falls of Neuse Road, offering convenient access to shopping at North Ridge Shopping Center, dining in Lafayette Village, about 1.5 miles north, and the walkable energy of North Hills / Midtown just a short drive away. For many buyers, it delivers the classic Raleigh combination of space, privacy, strong schools, and easy access to the broader Triangle.
A Brief History
North Ridge Country Club opened in 1967 and has grown into a member-owned private club spanning nearly 400 acres. It features two 18-hole championship golf courses (The Lakes and The Oaks), the original course designed by George Cobb and the second by Gene Hamm, with the Oaks later fully renovated by Kris Spence. The 70,000-square-foot clubhouse, tennis and pickleball facilities, aquatics complex, and fitness center serve its membership (invitation-only, currently full with a waitlist) across multiple generations of Raleigh families.
Membership is by invitation with a waitlist; initiation and dues vary by category (full golf, sports, junior executive, family). The club hosts social events, junior programs, tournaments, and private functions throughout the year.
Local Tip
Course-view and membership-eligible properties command a significant premium. Confirm current club status and any associated fees or rights directly with the club and your agent before purchasing.
Why Locals Love It
Residents consistently highlight the private club lifestyle (golf, tennis, swimming, fitness, and dining), mature tree canopy, low-traffic streets, and the ability to enjoy both a traditional neighborhood feel and quick access to Midtown restaurants, shopping, and parks. The area has long been a preferred address for families seeking top WCPSS schools and executives who want a classic North Raleigh setting.
"North Ridge still feels like classic Raleigh — tree-lined streets, established homes, and a true private club community — while remaining minutes from the growth and energy of North Hills."
