Welcome to Southern Village

Southern Village is built around a village green and Market Street. Residents can walk to Weaver Street Market, restaurants, The Lumina movie theater and Mary Scroggs Elementary. The green hosts outdoor movies and concerts in the warm months.

A Brief History

Developer D.R. Bryan was inspired by New Urbanism founder Andrés Duany and by a trip to Pienza, Italy, and began Southern Village in the mid-1990s. Town approvals came in 1993 and 1996. Mary Scroggs Elementary opened on the site in fall 1999. From 1999 the neighborhood ranked as the Triangle's top-selling community, according to a 2000 ULI case study.
